Individuals who wish to work, study or live in the UK can do so for a period of two years through the UK Tier 5 youth mobility scheme. This program is a points-based program that allows applicants from participating countries to enter the UK on a visa. The countries that are participating include New Zealand, Japan, Canada, Monaco and Australia. Overseas British citizens and nationals are also eligible for the program and are not held to the stricter requirements the other countries are.

It is a requirement that applicants are between the ages of 18 and 30 and are able to show proof of their citizenship. They must be sponsored by their national government and meet all the requirements before their applications are approved. Applicants who have plans to work in the UK during their stay must have a UK bank account and a UK insurance number.

There are points awarded by the Entry Clearance Officers during the UK Tier 5 process, and the points awarded will determine if the applicant is up for consideration of approval. For example, the “Attributes” section of the application will require 40 points in order to be considered. You will receive 30 points simply for holding a passport that proves you are a citizen from one of the participating countries and 10 more for being of the correct age for the program. But even though those 40 points are awarded, you still must meet another set of criteria, such as having enough funds to support yourself while you are there.  The UK Tier 5 program allows individuals to work as long as they are not professional sports members, doctors in training or under certain stipulations, such as self-employed. The main goal of these requirements is to not have the applicants using any public funding.
